The main characters in this Nigerian folktale, Fire, Wind, and Rain, compete to determine who is the greatest. The text is accompanied by vibrant illustrations. The pictures are collages in which African villagers and wildlife are superimposed on torn paper mountains and psychedelic swirling skies.

Some young readers may be frightened by the gales and fires illustrated in this picture book but natural disasters are often frightening. Red-eyed people and animals do blow in the wind in this story but others will enjoy the action and predicting which element wins.
